Best Practices for Building Your Data Modernization Strategy

July 11 | 1:00PM – 4:00PM

The data modernization journey is foundational to transforming the public sector to the benefit of all constituents. In this session, learn best practices for modern data architectures that are both low risk and that improve speed and agility, whether in experimentation or deployment.

Thoughtful planning includes people, process and technology and adheres to a "think big, start small, and scale fast" approach that data leaders can embrace and work through together. This session will highlight those people, process and technology aspects of a modern data journey and present success stories from public sector organizations. You’ll also have a chance to learn more about data governance principles and strategies that will set you up to take advantage of AI/ML—including generative AI—to further personalize the student and citizen experiences.

These foundations, paired with other learning opportunities throughout the session, will set the stage for learning how departments and teams can build a robust, resilient, and scalable data hub and catalog which can integrate seamlessly with services inside and outside of the AWS Cloud.

State and local government sessions

Amazon Working Backwards Sprint

JULY 11 | 1:00PM – 4:00PM

The Working Backwards Sprint helps you define a new product, service, or experience, and prepare to rapidly bring that solution to life – and to market. This interactive and highly collaborative engagement is inspired by the same customer-centric methods used by Amazon to develop breakthrough innovations our customers love, such as Amazon Prime, Amazon Kindle, AWS, Amazon Echo and Alexa, and Amazon Go.

We invite you to engage with our team and work together through the Working Backwards process; Working Backwards is the peculiar, customer-centric mechanism that lies at the heart of every product and service we develop at Amazon. This mechanism helps enable innovation across the organization, ensuring that everything we develop maintains a relentless focus on the customer and their needs.

Through this engagement, you will be challenged to think differently about customers and will have an opportunity to experience first-hand Amazon’s approach to innovation. To get the most value out of this session, we recommend bringing 1-2 ideas on ways you're interested to innovate internally or for your customer. This can include a change to your services, the way they are delivered, or the way you communicate your services.

Expo

Innovation is at the core of AWS. In 2023, AWS released more than 3,400 significant new services and features. A recent AWS collaborative survey found that 86% of employers expect to use AI tools by 2028 and nearly 80% of employees anticipate using generative AI within 5 years.

Generative AI is transforming education, healthcare, research, and government services by empowering better data-driven decisions, accelerating research and discovery, enabling more personalized, convenient citizen services, and improving productivity by automating processes.

Kim Majerus, Vice President of Global Education and US State and Local Government for Worldwide Public Sector at AWS, will be joined by featured customers to delve into how generative AI can make organizations across all industries and around the world more efficient, responsive, and effective in achieving their missions.
